Introduction. It is assumed that the motivation of young people to achieve high results is a positive factor in successful sports [2].
The purpose of the study is to identify the needs and their impact on achieving high athletic performance among students engaged in bullet shooting.
Methodology and organization of research. The number of respondents was 71 (35 men, 36 women). The distribution by category: KMS – 3 people; I category – 6 people; II category – 30 people; without category – 32 people. The students performed prone shooting with a small-caliber rifle (10 shots) and filled out the questionnaire by Yu.M. Orlov "The need for achievement" [1].
The results of the study and their discussion. On average, for the studied group, the result of the "Need for achievement" test has a value of 13.67± 1.98 points. This is the average level of the need for achievement. Of the entire group, 1 student has a low need for achievement, 40 students have an average need, and 30 students have a high need. The need for achievement has no significant differences between men (14.08±2.02 points, shooting result 85.61±7.89 points) and women (13.27±1.89 points, shooting result 85.13±7.97 points), as well as shooters with different ranks: 13.96±2.15 points for shooters without a rank (shooting result 81.77±7.86 points); 13.34 ± 1.85 points for shooters with the second category (shooting result 89.29±4.46 points); 13.72± 1.84 points for shooters with the first category and CMR (shooting result 91.36± 3.69 points). When conducting a correlation analysis, no reliable relationships were found between the level of need for achievement and the result of shooting, and the analysis was carried out both for the entire group and separately in subgroups of men, women, shooters with different ranks and without ranks.
Conclusions. The level of achievement needs does not have a direct impact on the athletic performance of students involved in bullet shooting, nor does it depend on the available grade. It should be noted that we are talking about mass student sports. In a professional environment, athletes may have different results.
