Introduction. In May 2016, the State Sports Administration published the "13th Five-year Sports Development Plan", which clearly states that the preparations for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing will be used as an opportunity to promote the development of winter sports throughout the country and actively promote sports on ice and snow. In November 2016, the "Ice and Snow Sports Development Plan (2016-2025)", jointly released by the State Sports Administration, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education and the National Tourism Administration, stated that the popularization and optimization of ice and snow sports for the entire population should focus on youth.
The purpose of the study is to present the experience of popularizing ice hockey among the younger generation of the People's Republic of China in Wuhan province.
The results of the study and their discussion. Government support from Hubei Province is a reliable guarantee for the development of ice hockey in Wuhan. The party Committee and the provincial government attach great importance to the development of sports on ice and snow. In August 2019, the Hubei Sports Bureau put forward targeted proposals for the development of ice and snow sports in various locations.
Currently, the projects of the mobile ice rink and indoor ski resort of the Wuhan Sports Center have been commissioned in the first half of 2021; the construction of the curling grounds of the Hubei Olympic Sports Center sports complex has been completed; the construction of ice and snow courts in the Caidian district, Jingzhou City.
It should be noted that the development of ice hockey in schools is facilitated by the youth sports winter camp opened in 2020, which aims to attract a large number of young people to winter sports. Educational activities include ice skating, skiing, ice hockey and equestrian sports. The training grounds are located in six urban areas of the city, with a total of 2,120 primary school students participating. The city of Wuhan annually organizes figure skating training camps for thousands of people in winter and summer. More than 5,000 children have mastered skating skills here.
As part of the long-term development of ice hockey in Wuhan, it is planned to integrate resources to create a network information resource covering hockey events in Wuhan.
Conclusion. Ice hockey in Wuhan has developed through the involvement of the younger generation in this sport. However, its development is characterized by inconsistency and a low level of governance on the part of government agencies. In this regard, a systematic approach is required in the development of ice hockey in the city, as well as the involvement of well-known athletes, coaches and referees to increase the attractiveness and professionalization of this sport.
