Objective of the study was to identify the relationship between stress test indicators and competitive performance.
Methods and structure of the study. The study involved 70 qualified male skiers aged 20-23. The following was performed: maximum ergometric testing (Lode treadmill, Cosmed gas analyzer, Ramp protocol). The following were recorded: maximum speed, absolute and relative levels of maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max), lactate concentration (La); at the anaerobic threshold (AnT): speed, percentage of VO2max, heart rate. Statistical processing (Statistica 10.0): nonparametric criteria (Mann-Whitney U-test, Spearman's rank).
Results and conclusions. All stress test parameters are characterized by inverse moderate (-0,34 – -0,67) relationships with competitive performance. The low-performance quartile at a distance of 3000 meters is characterized by the strongest equal (-0,54) relationships with maximum speed, work time, and AnT speed; at a distance of 5000 meters – with energy expenditure (-0,59) and VO2 max (-0,51). The high-performance quartile at a distance of 3000 meters demonstrates the maximum relationships with AnT speed (-0,66), maximum speed, work time, and VO2 max (-0,6 each); at a distance of 5000 meters – with AnT speed (-0,67), work time, and maximum speed (-0,6 each). The stress test parameters are characterized by a wide range of relationships with competitive performance. Their intensity depends on both the length of the distance and the athlete’s fitness.
