Key words: students, physical culture and sports activity, satisfaction, needs, interests.

The purpose of the study is to establish the priorities and significance of the characteristics that determine the self-esteem of physical culture and sports activity of students in the humanities.
Methodology and organization of the study. The scientific work was carried out in the 2022-2023 academic year on the basis of the State University of Education (Mytishchi), 198 full-time students studying in the humanities took part in it. The assessment of students' physical culture and sports activity was carried out using a survey method using a five-point system of priority and significance of the characteristics being studied. A condition score of 5 points corresponded to a high level: 4 – above average; 3 – average; 2 – below average and 1 point – low level.
Research results and discussion. As a result of the study, it was found that girls and boys of the 1st year of university have an “average” level of satisfaction with their own body weight - 3.46 ± 0.20 and 3.06 ± 0.17 points, as well as with their physique - 3.51 ± 0 .22 and 3.10±0.18 points, respectively. Research has shown that by the end of university studies (4th year), both boys and girls have a negative trend, which is due to a decrease in satisfaction with body weight, which is at the “below average” level - 2.22±0.10 and 2.35 ±0.12 points, and physique - 2.35±0.11 and 2.45±0.13 points, respectively.
Analysis of self-assessment of physical fitness indicates that 1st year students of both male and female have an “average” or “above average” level of satisfaction with endurance development of 3.36 ± 0.24 and 3.25 ± 0.18 points and motor coordination – 3.62±0.26 and 3.42±0.20 points, respectively, ensuring effective participation in the practical educational process of the university. By the end of their studies at the university, students experience a decrease in self-esteem and satisfaction with physical fitness. Thus, among girls and boys of the 4th year, a “low” level of satisfaction with the development of endurance is noted - 2.44 ± 0.13 and 2.14 ± 0.08 points, as well as coordination of movements - 2.25 ± 0.11 and 2 .38±0.11 points, respectively (p<0.05).
Conclusions. In the process of studying at a university, the number of students who are dissatisfied with their body weight and physique due to low physical activity, both in academic and educational classes, increases. This fact may negatively affect the effectiveness of the educational process.
