Introduction. In student sports, the specialization of 400-800 m in middle-distance running arouses increased interest among those involved, but requires a specific approach to building the training process [1].
The purpose of the study is to identify the effectiveness of the block construction of a macrocycle for training students in middle–distance running in the specialization of 400-800 m.
Methodology and organization of the study. Pedagogical testing, pedagogical observations, pedagogical experiment. 12 first-year students of Bauman Moscow State Technical University aged 18-19 years, 1-2 years of study experience (qualification of the second sports category) were included in the middle-distance running training group (specialization 400-800 m). The one-year cycle of student training was built according to a two-peak scheme for the development of sports uniforms and consisted of two macrocycles built on a block principle from September to mid-June. At the beginning of the preparatory period, the main attention was paid to the development of general endurance and strengthening of the musculoskeletal system. This was followed by a block for the development of special endurance based on performing loads in a mixed energy supply zone at the IPC level. The third block is dedicated to increasing the maximum running speed. At the stage of pre-competition training, the main focus was on running 200-400 m at competitive speed. At the competitive stage, students went out for 4-6 starts. After a two-week transition period, the macrocycle of preparation for the summer competitions was repeated.
The results of the study and their discussion. During sports training, the average results in the 400 m race improved from 54.63±0.59 s to 52.22±0.54 s (p≤0.05). In the 800 m run from 2:07.9±2.52 s to 02:02.5±2.16 s (p≤0.05). The increase in athletic performance was provided by an increase in endurance, estimated by the result in running at 3000 m (10:05.2±21.6 and 9:43.4±18.3 min: s (p≤0.05)) and speed, estimated by the result in running at 100 m (12.3±0.16 11.81± 0.22 s (p≤0.05)).
Conclusions. The training program for 400-800 m runners at the student sports club, which includes 118 training sessions and 6-8 starts, built on a block system of periodization, ensures the joint development of speed capabilities and endurance and a significant increase in athletic performance.
