Objective of the study was to theoretically substantiate and experimentally prove the effectiveness of the influence of physical activity of varying intensity on the mental activity of students during the academic year.
Methods and structure of the study. A program consisting of various exercises was developed and tested to assess the effectiveness of the influence of physical activity on the mental activity of students, depending on its intensity. Students' knowledge was assessed when answering test questions of low complexity before and after training of varying intensity, followed by comparison of the results obtained.
Results and conclusions. It was revealed that low-intensity physical activity has a positive effect on the mental activity of students, stimulating it, and moderate intensity led to a decrease in students’ brain activity during mental work. Thus, the authors came to the conclusion that a rational combination of exercises during the school year is necessary.

Keywords: physical activity, low and medium intensity, mental activity, students.
