Influence of diet optimization on functional indicators of swimmers

Objective of the study was to study the effect of dietary correction of highly qualified swimmers on the parameters of the cardiovascular system and the level of performance.
Methods and structure of the study. The scientific work was carried out in the laboratory of the Department of Biochemistry and Bioenergetics of Sports named after N.I. Volkov. The experiment involved highly qualified swimmers and amateur athletes. The following methods were used: questionnaires, assessment of the functional state and physical fitness of swimmers, calculation of the energy value and qualitative composition of food rations and daily energy expenditure of athletes, anthropometric methods, assessment of the level of physical performance was carried out on the basis of the value of pulse debt and MOC, and methods of mathematical statistics.
Results and conclusions. It was shown that among swimmers, the caloric intake of the diet was significantly lower than the actual energy consumption of athletes; there was a deficiency of proteins and carbohydrates. After the introduction of the protein-carbohydrate component into the diet, the calorie intake increased and completely covered the energy expenditure of the athletes, resulting in improved results of functional tests, a decrease in heart rate at rest, a significant increase in muscle mass and a decrease in the body fat component. The conducted research allows us to draw a conclusion about the practical feasibility of including a protein-carbohydrate drink as an ergogenic aid in the diets of swimmers.
