Objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of forced methods of reducing body weight on the competitive results of qualified male martial artists.
Methods and structure of the study. Combatants practicing judo (n=12), sambo (n=8) and combat sambo (n=6) filled out a questionnaire based on the RLWQ questionnaire, modified to identify various ways to quickly reduce body weight before competitions. The level of sports achievements of athletes was assessed using the competitive potential analysis system (PotAS).
Results and conclusions. The majority (n=17) of athletes were found to use rapid weight loss (RWL) in less than 50% of their pre-competition weight loss cycles. These athletes demonstrated significantly (p<0.05) higher PotAS scores than athletes who used RWL for 50% or more of their pre-competition weight loss cycles. A dependence was found on the frequency of RWL use on the duration of the pre-competition body weight reduction cycle.

Keywords: martial arts, judo, sambo, combat sambo, Rapid Weight Loss (RWL), Rapid Weight Loss Questionnaire (RLWQ).
