Introduction. Volitional regulation of behavior occupies an extremely important place in the psychological structure of the sports culture of the individual and is expressed in the ability of the subject of sports activity to maximize his psychophysical potential for effective management of sports activities in order to achieve high competitive results.
The purpose of the study is to theoretically develop and experimentally substantiate the effectiveness of the methodology for the development of the volitional component of students' sports culture (hereinafter referred to as VKSKS) in the process of sports activity.
Methodology and organization of the study. The volitional component of the students' sports culture includes in its content a set of methods of psychoregulation aimed at developing the volitional qualities of the athlete's personality and self-regulation of pre-competitive mental states. The following methods of psychodiagnostics were used to measure and evaluate the criteria and indicators of the level of development of VKSKS: "Psychological analysis of the volitional qualities of athletes" (A.C. Puni), "Self-assessment of the volitional qualities of athletes" (N.E. Stambulova), "Scale of control over actions" (Yu. Kul), "Questionnaire of volitional self-control" (A.G. Zverkov), "The severity of self-control in the emotional sphere, activity and behavior" (G.S. Nikiforov).
The results of the study and their discussion. At the beginning of the experiment, there were no significant differences in the criteria and indicators of the development of HCSCS in the subjects of KG and EG. At the end of the experiment, the average level of development of VKSKS was established in KG. At the same time, a high level of development of HSCS was noted in the EG in accordance with the criteria and indicators of emotional, behavioral and social self-control. There was an increase in the following indicators of the development of strong-willed qualities: purposefulness, discipline, responsibility, courage. It should be noted that the greatest increase in the indicators of the development of strong–willed qualities, such as endurance and self-control, was observed in athletes in complex sports, in sports games - initiative and independence, in cyclical sports – perseverance and endurance.
Conclusion. Thus, the results of the study indicate the effectiveness of the methodology for the development of VKSKS, which creates the necessary conditions for effective management of sports activities.
