Objective of the study was to determine the main trends in the physical development of students of the northern university.
Methods and structure of the study. The study was carried out over a 20-year period. First-year students (17-18 years old) of the Nizhnevartovsk State University (Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra, a region equated to the regions of the Far North) were determined anthropometric and physiometric indicators. Standard methods for determining the level of physical development and functional capabilities of the body were used.
Results and conclusions. Regularities of physical development (PD) of students of the northern region are revealed. Starting from 2003 to 2022, in the dynamics of the PD of students, it was established: an increase in height and body weight (corresponds to the secular trend of an increase in somatometric indicators of physical development), a decrease in functional resources and strength capabilities (a decrease in the vital capacity of the lungs and carpal dynamometry indicators).

Keywords: students, long-term dynamics, physical development, functionality, somatic parameters, physiometric indicators, secular trend.
