Introduction. The development of mass sports is the main direction in stimulating student youth to regular physical education and sports. The authors have developed a structured program on fitness tennis and proposed for implementation to improve the organization of the training process in sectional work at the University of public service [1, p.105].
The purpose of the study is to experimentally prove the effectiveness of a structured fitness tennis program in improving the physical fitness and technical skills of students engaged in the tennis section.
Methodology and organization of the study. The pedagogical experiment involved students of 1-4 courses engaged in the tennis section (n=36). The main method of research was the analysis of the results of testing the physical qualities and technical skills of the students.
The results of the study and their discussion. Low motivation for sectional classes at the university contributed to the revision of the organization of the training process in the tennis section. Pedagogical supervision of the functioning of the tennis section during the academic year with the use of a previously developed structured fitness tennis program has established the effectiveness of this form of organization of sectional classes. Classes using fitness tennis tools provide a reliable increase in physical fitness indicators. At the end of the year, the increase in the indicators of the test for the strength of the muscles of the press averaged 14.4% for both boys and girls; the results of flexion and extension of the arms in the prone position improved by 18.7% for girls, and by 14.3% for boys; the indicators of the flexibility test revealed a maximum increase in the results by more than 25%. The indicators of speed abilities and general endurance also had significant differences (p<0.05).
The positive mutual influence of the main components of general physical and technical readiness contributed to attracting students to participate in inter-faculty tennis competitions (31.2%) and four people (12.5%) were invited to the Institute's tennis team.
Conclusions. The main focus in the work of a tennis coach – teacher is not only in teaching the techniques of playing tennis, but also in improving the physical fitness of those involved. The results of the standards for the discipline "Physical culture and sport" have improved among those engaged in the tennis section. The use of a structured fitness tennis program in the tennis section helps to master the rational technique of strokes and individual game elements in tennis.
