Modification of PWC170 step test for physical performance evaluation and overtraining

Introduction. During physical exertion, the functional circulatory system and muscle regulation, as the dominant systems, are informationally actively interconnected. But with fatigue of the nerve centers (during overtraining), the regulatory role of the dominant of achieving the goal (muscle load) is weakened, so the functional circulatory system tends to get out of the subordination of the dominant of the goal of muscle work [1]. Consequently, in athletes, even with initial signs of overtraining or under significant stress, it is possible to observe wave-like fluctuations in pulse and pressure after the second load for 10-35 minutes.
The purpose of the study is to assess the physical performance and overtraining of students based on the use of the PWC170 step test.
Methodology and organization of the study. The assessment of FR was carried out according to V.L. Karpman's PWC170 step test on healthy 172 students of the 1st-2nd year. After the first load in the break before the second load, the pulse and pressure were measured every minute. Pulse and pressure measurements after the second load were carried out every minute for 35 minutes with an automatic pressure measuring device UA-777, blood oxygen saturation was measured with a Finger Pulse Oximeter. We found the value of the students' working capacity. A separate group included students whose pulse and blood pressure did not stay at the same level after exertion (after 5 minutes) and changed undularly for 10-35 minutes. Students who had wave-like changes in pulse and pressure revealed symptoms of overtraining by questioning, such as sleep disorders, depression, irritability, unwillingness to exercise, daytime drowsiness, short-term heart pain, etc.
The results of the study and their discussion. All 172 students had PWC170 within the normal range. Of these, 14 students (8.13%) were found to have a wave-like change in pressure and pulse after the second PWC170 load, which indicated the initial process of overtraining. After the first PWC170 load, all students' blood pressure and pulse returned to normal after 5 minutes of the load, during the break between the first and second loads for 5 minutes, pulse and pressure were normal and stable.
Conclusions. Analysis of the recovery and changes in pulse and blood pressure after the second PWC170 load for 35 minutes allows us to identify early symptoms of overtraining when there is only an initial period of fatigue of the nerve centers regulating the work of the muscular dominant A.A. Ukhtomsky.
