Introduction. In modern science, a lot of attention is paid to the problems of identifying factors that increase motivation to engage in physical culture among domestic students of various age categories. In our study, we tried to form an idea about the features of increasing motivation for physical education among students of various age categories by means of familiarizing them with special historical knowledge about domestic sports.
The purpose of the study is to identify the influence of information about the history of domestic sports on increasing motivation for physical education among students of various age categories.
Methodology and organization of the study. Scientific work was carried out in The Russian Open Academy of Transport of the Russian University of Transport (RUT (MIIT) in the period from February 2022 to June 2022 As part of the study, 270 students of the correspondence department of the first year of the university were interviewed. The surveyed students were divided into two target groups, according to the age of the interviewees: 1) 18-35 years old; 2) 35-40 years old. During four practical sessions, the study participants had to get acquainted with special information about the unique history of Russian sports – the triumphant return of our athletes to the Olympic movement system at the XV Summer Olympics in 1952 in Helsinki after a 40‑year break; the phenomenal successes of Soviet hockey players at the Winter Olympics of 1956-1988. After getting acquainted with the unique historical facts about the history of Russian sports, students had to answer the relevant questionnaire questions.
The results of the study and their discussion. In the course of the survey, it was found that 89.7% of the surveyed students from the first age category and 78.9% from the second have an interest in physical education. At the same time, only 77.5% of the surveyed students from the first age group are interested in unique information from the history of domestic sports, while representatives of the older age group are interested in 92.01% of cases. Answering the question about whether you feel a sense of pride after studying special information about the history of domestic sports, 88.1% of respondents from the first age group and 95.8% from the second answered positively. When answering the question about whether special information about the history of domestic sports motivates you to engage in physical culture, 85.8% of respondents from the first age group and 94.3% from the second answered positively.
Conclusion. As a result of the conducted research, a significant level of impact of special information about the history of domestic sports on the formation of motivation for physical education among students of various age categories was confirmed. At the same time, such information has a more fundamental motivational impact on the contingent of correspondence students aged 35-40 years.
