Introduction. Modern studies confirm that the process of using stretching exercises before work of a speed-strength nature leads to a decrease in the indicators of explosive muscle strength [1]. The speed and strength qualities of basketball players are manifested in special actions - in jerks, movements, jumps and throws of the ball into the ring.
The purpose of the study is to identify the rational use of flexibility exercises in the training process of basketball players.
Methodology and organization of the study. The scientific experiment was conducted on the basis of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Sports Games of the Volgograd State Academy of Physical Culture. The subjects were 20 young men of the national basketball team "Titans" qualification I–II category. At the initial stage, two groups of 10 people each were formed. During the training mesocycle, the first group of basketball players used a set of muscle stretching exercises in the preparatory part of the lesson. The second is in the final part. The complex consisted of 15 exercises of active muscle stretching, which was performed at rest for 20-25 minutes.
Results and research and their discussion. As a result of the experiment in the first group of basketball players, there is a decrease in the results of the speed and strength abilities of basketball players on the "20 m jerk" test by 2.8%, on the "shuttle 3x10 m" test by 1.7%, on the "jump up Abalakov" test by 8.7%, on the "throw a stuffed ball (2 kg) sitting" by 4%.
In the second group of subjects, on the contrary, there is an increase in the indicators for the test "jerk 20 m" by 8.8%, "shuttle 3x10 m" by 12%, for the test "jump up Abalakov" by 12%, for the test "throw a stuffed ball (2 kg) sitting" by 14.6%.
Values of calculated indicators (for n = 10) less critical. The empirical values of T-indicators fall into the zone of significance of Temp <Tcr (0.05). So it's likely that the differences are valid.
Conclusions. Active stretching of the muscle in the preparatory part of the workout leads to an increase in its length and some destabilization of the joints due to stretching of the fascia. As a result, a decrease in the indicators of speed and strength abilities of basketball players was found by an average of 4.3%. At the same time, carrying out flexibility exercises in the final part of the lesson leads to a faster recovery of muscle performance and an increase in test results by an average of 11.9%.
