Introduction. High overall physical activity, especially at a young age, increases resistance and weakens any dysfunction [1]. Regular aerobic muscle activity stimulates the musculoskeletal system and all life support organs [2]. A very affordable option for this type of training is athletics, aspects of the impact of which on the body still need to be clarified.
The purpose of the study is to identify the dynamics of the overall physical development of young men against the background of regular athletics.
Methodology and organization of the study. 33 clinically healthy young men (17-21 years old) were taken into the work. They were divided into two groups. The study group (16 young men) started athletics training four times a week for 60 minutes a day in addition to university physical education classes. The control group (17 people) consisted of young men who remained physically inactive. The results of standard functional tests assessing the overall level of physical fitness were determined. Statistical processing of digital data was performed by calculating the value of the Student's criterion (t).
The results of the study and their discussion. Initially, young men of both groups had a low level of physical development. In all cases, endurance, speed-strength and coordination characteristics were low in the outcome. After six months of athletics training, the speed and strength capabilities of the young men of the study group increased (the time of running a distance of 60 m decreased by 31.4%, the time of running a distance of 30 m decreased by 25.8%, the distance of the long jump increased by 43.6%, the number of body lifts from the prone position increased by 59.6% per minute, increased by 61.7% number of pull-ups). By the end of the observation, their coordination indicators improved (the number of jumps performed with a rope increased by 88.4%, the duration of the shuttle run decreased by 34.7%), their overall endurance increased (the distance run in 6 minutes increased by 29.5%). There was no significant dynamics of the considered indicators in the control group.
Conclusions. Athletics training is an affordable option for physical activation of the body. At the same time, some aspects of its influence on the youthful body have not been fully clarified. As a result of six months of athletics, the boys' physical abilities increased, the clarity of movements increased and the reserves of the cardiorespiratory system increased. The continuation of a low-activity lifestyle kept all the indicators in the control group boys at a level close to the original.
