Objective of the study was to assess the activity of using outdoor sports facilities during leisure time in the winter period by the population of the northern city.
Methods and structure of the study. Reporting documents of sports equipment rental points for outdoor sports facilities in Nizhnevartovsk were analyzed: ice skating rinks with pedestrian accessibility and recreation centers that require transport delivery of sports fans. The observation period was two weeks in February 2022: one week was characterized as significantly frosty, the other as slightly frosty.
Results and conclusions. The analysis showed that in the cold period for recreational physical culture and sports activities, preference is given to sports facilities located within walking distance. Less popular in conditions of low temperatures are the rental services for entertainment equipment (inflatable tubes for skiing from the slopes). On weekdays of a slightly frosty period, the activity of using sports facilities that are both within walking distance and requiring transport delivery does not differ. On weekends, residents of the northern city prefer physical culture and sports leisure activities carried out at recreation centers, even in the absence of organized transport links. The dependence of the activity of using the rental of sports equipment by the population of the northern city in the winter period on external factors (weather and social) was revealed. Thus, the weather factor influences the choice of a sports facility for sports and recreational activities: in conditions of low temperatures, residents choose outdoor sports facilities located within walking distance, even if they are not well equipped; on weekends of a slightly frosty period, the population prefers skiing and skiing.
