Abstract. In pedagogical science, considerable attention is paid to the problem of determining the factors of motivation for physical education among students. In this article, we have attempted to determine the influence of historical information about the daily life of Soviet athletes on the formation of motivation for physical education among students.
The purpose of the study is to determine how historical information about the daily life of Soviet athletes influences the formation of motivation for physical education among students.
Methodology and organization of the study. The research was conducted in the period from January 2022 to May 2022 at the Russian Open Academy of Transport of the Russian University of Transport (RUT (MIIT)). In the course of the study, 350 first-year university students studying the disciplines «Russia in Global History» and «Physical Culture and Sports» were interviewed. During the practical classes on «Russia in Global History», the survey participants were provided with information about the peculiarities of the daily life of outstanding Soviet athletes. For this purpose, students studied the autobiographies of two outstanding Russian athletes – A.N. Vorobyov (two-time Olympic champion in weightlifting) and V.A. Tretyak (three-time Olympic champion in ice hockey) during several practical classes. After analyzing the autobiographies of two great athletes, the students were asked to answer the questionnaire questions, which allowed them to identify the degree of influence of historical information about the daily life of Soviet athletes on the formation of their motivation for physical education.
The results of the study and their discussion. As part of the survey, it was determined that 91.05% of the surveyed students are interested in physical education. At the same time, 87.6% of respondents are interested in the history of the daily life of Soviet athletes.
When asked what emotions you feel after studying historical information about the daily life of Soviet athletes, 93.7% of respondents replied that they feel sincere respect for the sporting past of their country, 84.3% confirmed that they are proud of the Soviet period of the history of our state, and 90.3% recorded a sense of gratitude to Soviet athletes who glorified the USSR at international competitions. Answering the question about which information most influences your desire to play sports, 83.5% of respondents stated that they have such a desire for historical information about the daily life of Soviet athletes, and only 16.5% admitted that their desire to play sports is not related to specific historical information about the lives of outstanding Soviet athletes.
Conclusion. The results of the study confirmed a significant degree of influence of historical information about the daily life of Soviet athletes on the formation of motivation for physical education among students.
