Introduction. The key task in the system of long-term training of qualified decathlete athletes at the final stage of sports selection is to determine the ability to maintain a high level of competitive results for a long time [1, 3]. At the same time, complex research aimed at finding the most informative criteria and indicators of differentiated evaluation of the athletic talent of decathlete athletes in order to determine further prospects and expediency of continuing a sports career [2].
The purpose of the study is to determine the criteria and indicators of a differentiated assessment of the athletic talent of decathlon athletes at the final stage of sports selection.
Methodology and organization of the study. The method of differentiated assessment of the athletic talent of decathlon athletes includes in its content a longitudinal research method aimed at identifying individual abilities to preserve the conditioned, functional, mental and social capabilities of qualified athletes to extreme conditions of training and competitive activity.
The results of the study and their discussion. Taking into account factor and correlation analysis of the results of training and competitive activities of leading decathlon athletes at the final stage of sports selection, we determined the main criteria and indicators of differentiated assessment of sports talent: absence of medical contraindications for health reasons; availability of functional reserves and conditioned abilities to perform high training and competitive loads; ability to maintain readiness to achieve the highest level sportsmanship; mental stability to extreme conditions of training and competitive activity; a high level of motivation to continue a sports career; social and mental well-being in various spheres of an athlete's life.
Conclusion. Thus, a differentiated assessment of the criteria and indicators of the athletic talent of decathlete athletes at the final stage of sports selection, taking into account the identified abilities to preserve the results achieved, allows us to determine the future prospects for the expediency of continuing a sports career.
