Online learning opportunities for sports university students in context of sociological analysis

Introduction. Currently, the processes of digital improvement in the field of physical culture and sports are taking place against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic and the deepening economic crisis.
The purpose of the study is to identify the attitude of students at St. Petersburg State University to online learning in the academic subject "Elective courses in physical culture and sports".
Methodology and organization of the study. 110 students (70 boys and 40 girls), students of the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions, Faculty of Culture took part in the study.
The results of the study and their discussion. The study showed that the majority of students (98.4%) have the technical capabilities to take a distance course in physical education. They can use a smartphone, tablet or laptop as technical means for training. To understand the level of complexity of training sessions in online learning mode, respondents were asked the question "Have there been difficulties with understanding explanations and demonstrations of exercises", to which more than half of the respondents (74.5%) replied that understanding the content of the exercise methodology does not cause difficulties for them, while 25.5% of students have difficulties with quick understanding arise. About 67% of the survey participants expressed the opinion that it is easier for them to take the test remotely than in the face-to-face format.
Conclusions. The results of the experiment showed the effectiveness of practical classes using online learning, however, such a format should not replace the traditional academic form of education, but should complement and enrich the ways of interaction between students and teachers.
