Objective of the study was to define the main methods and forms of distance learning under the elective physical education and sports discipline to further improve the educational process and involve students in motor activity during self-isolation.
Methods and structure of the study. The study included an analysis of the scientific and methodological literature and an anonymous questionnaire survey conducted at Kuban State University in February 2021. Sampled for the study were the 1st-3rd-year students of 9 faculties (n=127, including 48 boys and 79 girls).
Results and conclusions. To the question "Do you have a feeling that you are not getting enough physical activity?", 72% of the respondents answered in the affirmative. To the question "What are your favorite exercises that become difficult to perform in conditions of self-isolation?", most of the respondents chose sports games, though they are not allowed. The vast majority of those surveyed (81%) indicated that it is more effective to conduct two physical education lessons a week than two back-to-back classes in a single day once a week. Only 12% of the respondents stated that they were satisfied with the combined practical and theoretical classes once a week, while 7% were undecided.
The findings enabled to elaborate practical recommendations that students believe would optimize the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle in terms of distance learning under the physical education discipline.
