Technology-based approach to distance learning under academic physical education and sports discipline

Objective of the study was to characterize new technological solutions to improve distance learning under the academic Physical Education and Sports discipline.
Methods and structure of the study. The study involved the 1st-3rd-year students (n=416) of non-sports areas of the bachelor and specialist training programs. The Physical Education and Sports discipline was realized based on the university distance learning platform (Sakai, OpenEdu). The training sessions were conducted in the form of online webinars and videoconferences (Mind, Teams, Big Blue Button). The lesson plan was tested on the 1st-3rd-year students during the 2019/2020 academic year. The main criterion for choosing the right methodology was the simplicity of explanations, understanding of the task set, and the possibility to choose the individualized task setting.
Results and conclusions. The results of the questionnaire survey and assessment of the level of students’ knowledge showed that distance learning increases the role of self-awareness, self-discipline, broadens their outlook of physical culture. Therefore, theoretical physical education assignments can be considered effective in raising student’s awareness and increasing their ability to self-reflect in a challenging epidemiological situation.
