Introduction. When selecting for athletics, the age of those involved is usually 9-12 years. Earlier acquaintance of children with this sport (we offer from 5-8 years old) will increase the chance of involvement in a simple, accessible, interesting and versatile sport, such as athletics, when reaching the optimal allowed age [1, 2].
The purpose of the study is to determine the effectiveness of track and field exercises when choosing a sport for children.
Methodology and organization of the study. The experimental work was carried out in the Children's Center for the Development of Motor Giftedness at the VGAFK. All classes were held in the form of games, relay races, competitions, where each child tried to show himself only from the best side. Performing tasks on the signal contributed to the development of attention, the mental process necessary for learning. Training sessions were held with a group of 5-8-year-olds twice a week for 50 minutes. The experiment lasted two months.
The results of the study and their discussion. The first group of exercises was aimed at developing coordination, dexterity, and speed. Various versions of the relay races were used with and without objects. Especially exercises with objects, as we know, contribute to the development of motor skills. The second group – jumping exercises. Options for jumping with two legs – both in the form of a game, and as usual. The third group of tools is aimed at teaching the movements of throwing at horizontal and vertical targets. It took into account not only the correct starting position, flight range, but also the accuracy of the hit.
Conclusion. The competitive element made it possible to more accurately determine the degree of predisposition to athletics and even to a specific type of this sport. With fairly simple, easily performed exercises, positive results were achieved not only in the development of qualities, increasing results, but also in the development of such a mental property as attention. Earlier involvement of children in track and field athletics will allow to develop the child in various ways, as well as to create an idea of this sport. This, in turn, will increase the chance of choosing this sport in the future.
