Objective of the study was to determine the effectiveness of physical education of female students of pedagogical universities using various fitness means.
Methods and structure of the study. Sampled for the study were the 1st-2nd-year (18-19 year-old) female students of the pedagogical university. The testees were to reach the qualifying standards in September 2018 (beginning of the experiment) and in May 2019 (end of the experiment). Their physical fitness level was tested.
The group classes were held as part of the physical education process twice a week for 90 minutes. The process of training of the Control Group girls was based on sports games and track and field athletics elements, while those from the Experimental Group were additionally involved in fitness practices.
Results and conclusions. The study findings showed that the physical fitness rates increased in the Experimental Group girls as compared to the Control Group ones. Their physical fitness was rated in 8 control tests performed at the beginning and at the end of the academic year.
The analysis of the data obtained at the end of the academic year revealed that the majority of the physical fitness indicators increased in both the Control and Experimental Groups. However, they were still higher in the Experimental Group rather than in the Control Group. The overall increment rate at the end of the academic year was 75.7% in the Experimental Group and 48.4% in the Control Group.
Therefore, fitness is not just a popular type of motor activity but also an effective means to develop physical qualities and improve physical fitness in general, which increases females’ interest in regular physical education and sports activities, as well as in the development of professionally important qualities.
