Objective of the study was to determine the correlation relationships between the aerobic and anaerobic threshold values in the calculation of these values by different methods.
Methods and structure of the study. Sampled for the study were a group of qualified speedskaters (from Candidate Masters of Sport to World Class Masters of Sport) with many years’ experience in ice speed skating: a total of 38 male students aged 20-26 years. They were subjected to a cycle ergometer test with a stepwise increasing load to be performed to failure at the load power of 750 kg-m/min (125 W), each step taking 3 min at the constant cadence of 60 rps. The load power was increased by 150 kg-m/min (or 25 W) with each step. The rest intervals between the steps were 1 min, when the blood sampled were taken. The work was performed to failure due to the onset of fatigue. At each stage, we registered the athletes’ HR and performed finger stick testing to determine the biochemical indicators required.
Results and conclusions. As part of the study, we analyzed the variations in the aerobic and anaerobic threshold values calculated by different methods of testing the qualified speedskaters. The ergometric test data were systematized and statistically processed. The article gives an analysis of the correlation relationships between the indices of the dynamics of changes in the workload performed, as well as the change in the athletes’ HR. The analysis of the experimental data revealed that a rough estimation of localization of the aerobic and anaerobic threshold zones can be obtained by calculating the dynamics of changes in both the ergometric and pulse rates. This was confirmed by the strong correlation between the compared indicators. The proposed method to determine the above physical working capacity parameters is particularly relevant when correcting training loads for qualified speedskaters during their training for responsible competitions.
