Objective of the present study was to determine the figure skaters’ taste preferences and identify the pedagogical techniques of weight control based on the questionnaire survey results.
Methods and structure of the study. The questionnaire survey of the athletes and their parents was conducted from March to May 2019. The questionnaire survey form for the parents included 23 questions, and that for the athletes - 13 questions. Moreover, we daily monitored the body weight indices in the figure skaters at the training stage of the training cycle. The survey made it possible to determine the taste preferences of modern figure skaters and identify the pedagogical weight control techniques, as well as the relationship between the athlete, his parent(s) and his coach. In addition, it was suggested that the preference for a snack should be determined, provided that the prohibitions on the assortment were raised, without reference to their effect on the weight gain or loss.
Results of the study and conclusions. The questionnaire survey showed that many athletes, as well as their parents, did not fully understand how important it is for a figure skater to have a proper sports meal. The analysis of the athletes’ answers to the questionnaire form questions indicated that more than half of the figure skaters interviewed preferred food rich in calories, which undoubtedly affected their weight and hence their athletic performance. We also identified the problems in understanding the need for ongoing monitoring of the body weight indices.

Keywords: dynamics of body weight indices in figure skaters, pedagogical weight control techniques for figure skaters, influence of body weight dynamics on result.
