Objective of the study was to synthesize knowledge of idiopathic toe walking in preschoolers and propose new approaches to rehabilitation by means of physical education.
Methods and structure of the study. The authors analyzed the data on the idiopathic toe walking syndrome as a disturbance of the natural ontogenesis of locomotions in preschoolers and developed recommendations on expanding or improving various rehabilitation means.
Results and conclusions. It is noted that the common approach for modern rehabilitation methods is to improve the range of movements of the ankle joint. The substantiation for this is that the ankle joint movement within the normal range will teach children with idiopathic toe walking heel-to-toe walking and thus prevent the expected complications of this condition. Special corrective gymnastics combined with special massage techniques with an emphasis on work with the ankle joint is the most common rehabilitation means aimed to improve muscle tone and motor coordination in the children with the idiopathic toe walking syndrome. However, years of experience with children diagnosed with the idiopathic toe walking syndrome showed that it is necessary to limit the age of termination of physiological toe walking by starting self-assisted walking. At the same time proper preventive classes should be given to such children from six months downward to develop their primary foot positioning skills in the locomotor actions.
