Objective of the study was to improve coordination abilities in the first-year non-sporting department students engaged in volleyball at Physical Education classes.
Methods and structure of the study. The study was carried out on the basis of Novosibirsk State University from September 2019 through March 2020 and involved the first-year students who had chosen volleyball physical education program. During the experiment, two groups of trainees were formed: Control Group and Experimental Group, 15 students each, which included the first-year students majoring in the non-sporting academic disciplines, who had not previously been engaged in professional or amateur volleyball. The Control Group students were trained in accordance with the standard physical education program. The Experimental Group used the developed coordination building routine which was applied in the conditioning part of the physical education lesson. The following tests were used to assess the level of coordination abilities in the first-year students engaged in volleyball: 3x10 m shuttle run, 30 second jump rope, overhead ball pass, triple forward roll.
Results and conclusions. The 3x10 m shuttle run test results demonstrated by the Experimental Group volleyball players after the experiment improved statistically significantly (p<0.05). The increase in the arithmetic mean values in the jump rope test was 9.8% in the Experimental Group volleyball players. The analysis and comparison of the ball pass test results showed that in the Experimental Group volleyball players the arithmetic mean value was 9.9±0.06 sec at the end of the experiment, with the growth rate of 9.6%. Therefore, the developed set of exercises introduced into the educational process is considered an effective way to raise the level of motor coordination in the first-year students majoring in the non-sporting academic disciplines.
