From science to sport: faculty sports practices

Keywords: the relationship between mental work and sports, and an online survey.

Introduction. Sociologists ' attention is drawn to issues related to determining the relationship between mental work and sports.
The purpose of the study is to identify the relationship of sports and leisure practices with professional practices and life attitudes of knowledge workers based on sociological analysis.
Methodology and organization of the study. A pilot sociological study was conducted on the basis of the Scientific Park of Saint Petersburg state University. the content of the research was an online survey of knowledge workers. During the pilot study, the respondents ' attitude to sports leisure, as well as the relationship between sports leisure and mental work, was studied. A total of 131 respondents were surveyed, the sample was quota-based, and the results of the study do not claim to be representative. Among the respondents were 38 % of doctors of science, 60 % of candidates of science, 2 % of masters. The study asked respondents ' opinion on sports leisure as a manifestation of a healthy lifestyle.
The results of the study and their discussion. According to the respondents ' responses, 63.4 % believe that sports leisure fully reflects the principle of a healthy lifestyle, 27.5 % believe that sports leisure is most likely part of a healthy lifestyle, 5.3% negatively assess sports leisure activities as part of a healthy lifestyle, and finally, 3.8% find it difficult to assess sports leisure activities as an element of a healthy lifestyle.
Respondents who are 60 years old and older are more confident that they are willing to spend their time on sports and physical education. In turn, respondents who represent the age group from 18 to 29 years, with less confidence declare that they are ready to go in for sports or physical culture than their older colleagues.
The next question of the questionnaire focused the respondents ' attention on the subject of discussion, whether sports activities help in their professional activities. From the responses of respondents, it becomes clear that 32.1 % of respondents believe that sports leisure definitely helps in their professional activities, while in the gender division, men are 5.4% more likely to choose this answer option than women. In turn, 37.4 % believe that sports leisure rather helps, 13 % believe that sports leisure rather does not help, and 6.9 % – that sports and physical culture definitely do not help in their professional activities, and 10.7% find it difficult to answer this question. It should be noted that, unlike women, men are 5.8% more likely to believe that sports leisure definitely does not help in their professional activities.
Conclusions. In the study of sports leisure of knowledge workers, a close relationship between mental work and sports loads was identified. Respondents who are engaged in sports leisure activities have an increase in their professional activity. Tracking the difference in performance between respondents who engage in sports leisure and those who do not, it can be seen that those respondents who engage in sports leisure have a more positive assessment of their health and are considered more successful than other respondents.
