Introduction. Professional athletes are often faced with health problems of the oral cavity. Physical exertion, fatigue, lack of time, stress at competitions are the cause of lack of proper oral hygiene, bleeding and gum inflammation [1].
The aim of the study is to analyze modern toothpastes for the prevention of inflammatory periodontal diseases in professional athletes.
Methodology and organization of the study. Information for 2018-2020 was analyzed. in PubMed, GoogleScholar, and eLIBRARY databases, using the keywords " periodontaldisease "in combination with the keywords" sportsmen"," toothpaste"," gingivitis", and"prophylaxis".
The results of the study and their discussion. For athletes, organic composition is not only an alternative, but also a rational approach to the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity. The leading ingredients of plant - based toothpastes are chamomile, clove, oak bark extract and aloe Vera, which have anti-inflammatory, bacteriostatic and analgesic effects, which allows you to forget about the discomfort during intense training.
In 2019, British scientists presented zendium ™ toothpaste, which includes a triple enzymatic complex of amyloglucosidase, glucose oxidase and lactoperoxidase, which cause the death of pathogenic bacteria [1]. Brushing your teeth with this paste leads to a significant improvement in gum health compared to brushing your teeth with regular toothpaste, and the protein molecules in the composition allow you to maintain the balance of the oral microflora.
Scientists from Germany have proven that toothpastes containing a chemical agent, SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), increase inflammation in the oral cavity [2]. Therefore, the rejection of such chemical agents in toothpastes as SLS will reduce the development of periodontitis and improve the condition of the gums.
Conclusion. For a high-quality fight against inflammatory periodontal diseases, the modern dental market offers toothpastes based on vegetable and organic raw materials, toothpastes with an enzymatic composition. Special attention should be paid to natural compositions of oral hygiene products without SLS content.
