Objective of the study was to experimentally substantiate the effectiveness of the application of Khanty folk active games as a means to optimize the motor activity of elementary schoolchildren.
Methods and structure of the study. The study was carried out on the basis of the Municipal Budgetary General Education Institution Gymnasium named after F.K. Salmanov, Surgut. The pedagogical longitudinal study involved 60 non-sporting elementary schoolchildren, who were divided into the Control (n=30) and Experimental (n=30) Groups. The Control Group subjects were trained according to the traditional physical education curriculum, the Experimental Group – under the academic program with the elements of Khanty folk active games. We studied the subjects’ functional and physical fitness rates before and after the experiment.
Results and conclusions. During the experiment, the most effective Khanty traditional means of physical education (folk active games and competitions) were selected. The baseline functional and physical fitness rates did not differ significantly in the elementary schoolchildren of both groups. It was experimentally proved that the use of Khanty folk active games contributed to the significant inter-group differences in the functional and physical fitness rates of the Experimental Group subjects as opposed to the Control Group. The study showed the applicability and efficiency of Khanty folk active games in optimizing the motor activity of elementary schoolchildren.
