Objective of the study was to determine the peculiarities of physical working capacity, wrist strength and psychophysiological characteristics of highly-qualified female racing skiers in different phases of the ovarian-menstrual cycle.
Methods and structure of the study. The scientific experiment was conducted on the basis of Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth, and Tourism in the laboratory of biomedical care provided to sports teams of the Sports Medicine Research and Development Center. A total of 10 highly-qualified female racing skiers were subject to a questionnaire survey aimed to identify the nature and peculiarities of the ovarian-menstrual cycle and tolerance to physical loads. We analyzed the female athletes’ sports diaries to obtain objective data on the quantity of training work performed; conducted a questionnaire survey of the coaches and well-known racing skiers. The subjects’ physical working capacity was assessed in different phases of the ovarian-menstrual cycle in a two-stage PWC170 test with submaximal physical load.
Results and conclusions. The main special preparatory exercises for the female racing skiers of the senior category were as follows: skiing, roller skiing, cross-country skiing, simulation. Their share in the total cyclic training means reaches 85-90%. Within the year-long training of the female racing skiers of the senior category, the following volume of work in different intensity zones was recorded: Zone 1 - 38%±2.86, Zone 2 - 46%±2.07, Zone 3 - 8.4%±1.14, Zone 4 - 7.6%±1.34. The study enabled to identify informative test exercises to monitor the essential motor qualities of female racing skiers of the senior category. The highest results of the stress state were registered in the 2nd and 4the phases of the ovarian-menstrual cycle, indicating that these phases are noted by irritability, nervousness, disturbed general psychophysical state. The data obtained will make it possible to optimize the process of training of female racing skiers.
