Objective of the study was to determine the impact of sport orienteering practices on the cognitive mental processes in students.
Methods and structure of the study. The following research methods were applied: analysis of scientific and methodological literature, testing of the cognitive mental processes, educational experiment, pedagogical observation, mathematical statistics methods. The study involved 18 boys aged 18-21 years (Experimental Group and Control Group, 9 people each). The Experimental Group subjects were trained according to the developed sport orienteering program within the Overall Physical Conditioning course, which included classes in the audience (for example, to find the symbol on the map, collect the "cut" map, "flippers", find the letter in the text in the least amount of time) and on the ground (setting out, track memorization, tagged map, mini-relay). The Control Group students attended the bodybuilding classes.
Results and conclusions. The data obtained indicated that the attention and memory rates in the Experimental Group students improved significantly, unlike those of the Control Group students. It should be noted, however, that the thinking test rates in the students improved slightly under the influence of the sport orienteering classes, but this increase was statistically insignificant. According to the authors, the introduction of this discipline in educational institutions will increase interest in this sport as well as have a positive impact on the psychophysical development of students.
