Objective of the study was to substantiate a new approach to the development of the additional vocational education program based on the "Coach" professional standard taking into account the coaches' individual needs.
Methods and structure of the study. The research methods included: analysis of the normative legal documents regulating the program development process, questionnaire survey of the sports school coaches of Saint Petersburg (n=128). The sports school coaches implementing the sports training programs were asked to evaluate the content of labor activities, knowledge, skills, and abilities required, which necessitate the acquisition of additional information as part of the additional vocational education program during the advanced training courses.
About half of the coaches surveyed were women and men with higher education in the field of physical education and sports, of whom one in five had secondary vocational education. In terms of the length of service at a sports school, 57.8% of the respondents had up to five years of experience.
Results of the study and conclusions. The analysis of the findings has made it possible to state that the current system of normative legal documents fully defines the design, content, and structure of the programs reviewed. The results of the questionnaire survey of the coaches indicate that there are individual needs to obtain necessary knowledge for practical fulfillment of the requirements of the "Coach" professional standard. The content of the additional vocational education programs should be based on the identified information needs of the coaches.

Keywords: additional vocational education program, normative legal documents, professional standard "Coach", questionnaire survey of coaches.
