Objective of the present study was to analyze typical errors in preparing the necessary documentation for the sports titles and categories awarding.
Methods and structure of the study. During the study, we analyzed the normative legal documents and recommendations for sports titles and categories awarding - a total of 106 recommendations and accompanying papers.
Results of the study and conclusions. The analysis of the recommendations for the sports title "Master of Sport of Russia" showed that 30% of rejections were due to the lack of a sports category of the candidate for promotion or due to the expiry of its validity term, or due to the lack of the supporting documents; 28% of rejections were due to the non-conformity of the package of documents to the recommendation, inconsistency between the name of the competition and the name in the unified calendar or notice of competitions. The competition time frames differed from the unified calendar and notice of competitions; 15% of the recommendations lacked several sports referee certificate copies, expired term of validity of the category "Sports referee of the all-Russian category", or lacked the copies of the confirmation or renewal of this category. A common error is the incorrect name of a sport - 13% of cases.

Keywords: sports titles and categories; sports competitions; unified calendar; unified all-Russian sports classification; all-Russian Register of Sports.
