Objective of the study was to substantiate the use of the Body Pump strength training program in physical training of female first-year students of sports universities as an effective means to increase their physical fitness level in a relatively short time.
Methods and structure of the study. Sampled for the 4-month study were the female first-year students of Kuban State University of Physical Education, Sports and Tourism, who were divided into two groups: Experimental Group (12 female students of the Faculty of Health-Improving Physical Education) and Control Group (13 female students of the Faculty of Adaptive and Health-Related Physical Education). The Body Pump practices were conducted using a detachable bar and a set of weight plates of different weights: 1 kg, 2.5 kg, and 5 kg. The Body Pump program consisted of 8 exercises lasting 4-5 min each and accompanied by different music tracks. The Control Group female students were trained during the same research period according to the traditional physical training program.
Results of the study and conclusions. The Body Pump practices contributed to a significant improvement of the initial rates of development of the Experimental Group females' speed and speed-strength qualities in 4 months. However, the most pronounced growth of the relative indices was observed in the following tests: in a greater degree - maximum number of squats in 60 sec (+21.8%) and 4x9m shuttle run (-17.4%), in a less degree - 100 m run (-9.8%) and standing long jump (+7.4%).
