Wushu has been recognized an indispensable part of the Chinese cultural heritage soon after China was established as a state, with multiple efforts taken since then to promote and shape up this popular combat sport discipline on the relevant traditional, historical and philosophical grounds. Objective of the study was to mine and analyze popular attitudes to Wushu in Belarus Republic by two questionnaire survey forms – one for the physical education and sport service managers and the other for the general public, with the relevant psychometric data dependability, validity and sensitivity rates. Under the general public survey, 500 questionnaire forms were disseminated and 486 of them were responded. On the whole, the survey found the respondents being interested in the new physical practices and health opportunities offered by the Chinese health gymnastics Wushu, with a special appreciation of the highly motivating positive emotions, contentment, values and priorities of the training system.
The survey data and analyses give the grounds to recommend the Wushu network in the country being expanded and the discipline further promoted by target international contacts and cooperation of the China and Belarus governments, with translations of the relevant instruction manuals, comic strips, animations; and by the target TV programs, Internet uploads etc. to popularize the ethical and philosophical basics of Wushu; with the promotion initiatives being age-specific to motivate the local age groups for the practices.
