In view of the fact that a specialist training multiannual process may be successful only when supported by a self-education agenda with high cognitive motivations, we used an educational concept of personality attitudes system (that implies that the individual behavior and productivity of any activity is determined by the personal attitudes to the surrounding phenomena) as a basis for the study. The article considers necessary provisions for the competency-building sport-and-health tourism (SST) based academic educational process design; and analyzes benefits of interactive technologies including the project method for the academic education. The study data and analysis made it possible to formulate the following key educational provisions for success of the project method: the education and training process needs to be customized to the professional missions and responsibilities; education staff shall be highly proficient in the modern interactive technologies; and the project method shall factor in the students’ physical fitness levels. The project method was tested highly beneficial in physical education designed based on the above provision.

Keywords: sport-and-health tourism, competency-building approach, university students, education process design, interactive technologies.
