Success of a modern sport team building process largely depends on the team management and coaching styles, policies and success motivations. Objective of the study was to provide theoretical grounds for and test benefits of an ice hockey teamwork improvement mental conditioning model. The study analyzes the key mental conditioning model components including the purely mental control, education- psychological and managerial ones.
Mental conditioning is interpreted as the education-psychological system of actions to shape up and excel the individual mental control skills and qualities critical for competitive success – within the cultural and ideological education process, with a special emphasis on the sporting ideas, priorities, determination and the relevant personality qualities. A mental conditioning system shall include efficient tools to shape up the individual competitive mettle. The managerial aspect implies the set of team control skills in the training and competitive processes.
It is concluded that the mental conditioning system components analyzed herein shall be designed to expand the training process scope and improve its quality and considered an integral part of the training-to-game process. It may be stated with confidence that a team competitive success depends rather on the training process design and management than scope and intensity.
