Health and healthy lifestyle in values and priorities of pedagogy students

The revaluation of values in the modern society in recent years resulted in the increased attention to the problem of formation of value orientations in students of a pedagogical university.
A special priority in the ongoing reforms of the social values system is played by the health values and healthy lifestyle formation components of the academic curricula at pedagogical universities. Healthy lifestyles and healthy values and priorities form a basis for success in professional service, social relationship in the educational system, life goals and world outlooks. Objective of the study was to estimate contributions of health values in the hierarchy of values of pedagogy students and offer efficient tools for healthy lifestyle promotion. The three-stage study was run at Mordovian State Pedagogical Institute named after M.E. Evsevyev. Sampled for the study were the first-year (n=40) and fifth-year (n=45) students majoring in Physical Education and Life Safety discipline of 44.03.05 Pedagogical Education curriculum. The authors used the M. Rokeach method to rate the health values and healthy lifestyle in the values system of the sample. The study found that health values are ranked among the top three in the values system, with the senior students more predisposed and committed to healthy lifestyle.
