The study offers a classification for versions of the same hold based on the theory of symmetry with application of a ground reaction force (GRF) as the key hold execution effort rating criterion. Tests under the study found variations in the GRF rates in the push-off hold versions versus the body positions; and demonstrated that the symmetric/ alike counter positions require much more strength for the hold execution than any other position. It was also found that the mirror and asymmetric counter positions (for the high and low postures) require lower efforts for the hold execution. The proposed GRF rating tests and analyses may be beneficial for further studies to classify the popular Greco-Roman wrestling holds by the postural symmetry and find the most advantageous positions for the holds.

Keywords: ground reaction force (GRF), counter positions in wrestling, push-out hold, Greco-Roman wrestling, holds classification, hold execution efforts.
