Presently the academic physical education curricula are commonly recognized to be in need of reforms. Objective of the study was to probe the university students’ attitudes to the academic boxing sport by a questionnaire survey. The study was designed to survey 300 first-to-fourth year students of Siberian Federal University in Krasnoyarsk city. One of the goals of the survey was to analyse the students’ attitudes to the idea of boxing sport being included in the academic physical education curricula. The survey data showed that most of the students polled (55%) had been victims of street violence or attacks; and, hence, welcomed boxing as a part of the academic physical education curriculum hoping to improve their self-defence abilities (82%). Moreover, boxing techniques were mentioned as indispensable in many life situations (63%); albeit some respondents believed that the modern academic environment offers poor conditions for serious boxing practices (67%). We believe that the survey data and analysis may be helpful for the academic physical education specialists and instructors.
