Objective of the study was to profile the sport mastery excellence process in combined ski races versus the typed competitive fitness rates. The study found that the high competitive success rates are normally achieved by the combined racing skiers in the age of 20-22 years conditional on their skiing careers starting from 9-10 years of age as verified by the track record data of the Winter Olympic, all-Russian and World champions and finalists. It was also found that at least 11-13 years of training are required for a combined racing skier to reach the top mastery level. Regardless of the special events of the combined ski races the athletes are specialized in, they normally go through virtually the same age-specific phases of the training process showing virtually the same competitive success rates in every phase. Analysis of the competitive success rates of the combined racing skiers versus their sport rankings made it possible to profile their competitive success rates. The competitive accomplishments in specific events of the combined races and the relevant contributions to the final competitive success were used as a competitive fitness rating criterion. It was found that the sport excellence process of the combined racing skiers will be designed to build up the so-called universal type of competitive fitness.

Keywords: combined ski races, competitive events of combined ski races, sport ranks, universal type of competitive fitness.
