Ideomotor training to improve elite biathlonists' shooting skills

The article considers some issues of shooting skills excelling in elite biathlon, with a special focus on the ideomotor training tools being applied in the training and competitive processes. Objective of the study was to analyze the benefits of the ideomotor training method and its application in the elite biathlonists’ training and competitive processes. It was found by the study that the brighter and clearer are the images created by the athlete, the higher are the emotions and focuses of the wording for the images and the more automated is the procedure, the higher are the benefits of the ideomotor training system. Prudent application of the ideomotor training system in the elite biathlonists’ training and competitive processes made it possible to step up both the technical mastery of the athletes and their competitive success rates the whole. Special shooting warm-up practices driven by the ideomotor training tools were found to facilitate fast and accurate shooting at high heart rates.
