Key words: psychological support, athlete's self-actualization, athlete's personal and professional formation and development.

The purpose of research was to define the role of psychological support in the process of self-actualization of an athlete.
In the process of growing it is relevant for man to develop professionally and personally. This is because, on the one hand, the athlete has his own individual characteristics (needs, interests, intelligence, preferences etc.), which have a special influence on the choice of the professional orientation and course of professional adaptation. These characteristics tend to contribute to the development of professional skills, creativity at work, but they can also hinder professional development (lack of professional skills, zeal, self-regulation skills, and so on), leading to rapid professional wilt.
Model of professional development is a way for an athlete to go beyond his usual practice, to look at the benefits of sports activity at different angles and convert it that makes it possible to accept, competently assess and understand all the challenges and contradictions and confidently resolve them in accordance with their inner values. In this model, any complex task becomes an incentive for self-development, as a means of overcoming oneself, and it is this model is an object of psychological support for the personality formation of a professional athlete from the subjects of sports activity. Psychological support is possible in case of designing a system of psychological support of athletes, and psychological service in a particular sports team can be such a system.
