Abstract

Objective of the study is to analyse and generalise the experience of educational activity in physical culture at Saint Petersburg State University in the period 1901-2026. Methods and structure of the study. The study was conducted on the basis of Saint Petersburg State University. The work used the method of retrospective analysis, making it possible to reconstruct past events on the basis of facts and evidence. In the course of the organisation of the study, archival, administrative, scientific and methodological documents and reports confirming information about the development of educational activity in physical culture at Saint Petersburg State University from 1901 to 2026 were analysed. Results and conclusions. The conducted retrospective analysis showed that educational activity in physical culture at Saint Petersburg State University passed the path from individual courses of Swedish gymnastics and athletics at the beginning of the 20th century to the creation of a multi-level system of preparation (bachelor's, master's, supplementary professional education) and integration into interdisciplinary programmes, including adaptive physical culture. This testifies to the consistent development and adaptation of physical education to modern requirements.
