Abstract

Objective of the study is to trace the influence of additional track-and-field training on the level of physical capabilities of first-year male students. Methods and structure of the study. The object of observation was 56 healthy first-year male students, who formed two equal groups of this study. The experimental group (28 people) attended physical education classes and also twice a week performed specialised track-and-field training (running, jumping, throwing). The control group (28 people) was limited only to the programme physical education classes. At the start of the study and after 5 months, all the subjects underwent standard functional tests. The statistical processing included the calculation of the Student’s t-test. Results and conclusions. The additional track-and-field training reliably increased the aerobic capabilities, the speed-strength indicators and the coordination stability of the male students. Thus, regular additional track-and-field classes contribute to a more rapid and pronounced physical development of first-year students in the conditions of academic loads.
