Abstract
Objective of the study is to determine the features of the post-load changes in individual indicators of the morphological and biochemical composition of the blood in highly qualified kayak and canoe rowers in the tapering period. Methods and structure of the study. Throughout the second half of the competitive period, excluding the tapering period, 26 kayak and canoe rowers (5 Honoured Masters of Sports, 8 International Masters of Sports, 13 Masters of Sports) aged from 19 to 36 years were repeatedly examined. The total number of examinations was 82. In the second week of tapering, 12 rowers (2 Honoured Masters of Sports, 4 International Masters of Sports, 6 Masters of Sports) aged from 20 to 33 years were examined three times. The total number of measurements was 36. Samples of capillary blood were analysed. The following were recorded: the content of haemoglobin, glucose, urea, cortisol, total testosterone, free testosterone, the activity of creatine phosphokinase and the haematocrit indicator. The equipment applied was the Abacus 380 haematological analyser and the BioSystems BTS 350 semi-automatic biochemical analyser. Results and conclusions. As the obtained data showed, in the selected contingent of subjects in the tapering period the most ‘problematic’ in terms of the frequency of going beyond the optimal centile ranges are the mean individual values of the content of glucose, cortisol, total and free testosterone. The analysis of the oscillations of the post-load values of the indicators of the morphological and biochemical composition of the blood in each athlete testifies to a number of ‘weak links’ in the organisation, content and medico-biological support of the tapering period in individual rowers. These are periodic ‘shock’ loads, training against the background of a carbohydrate deficit, the absence of proper prophylaxis of repeatedly arising states of high psycho-emotional tension not connected with an overdose of loads, as well as the instability of the testosterone profile.
