Introduction. Activation of body tissues is achieved under conditions of regular sports loads. Under these conditions, all life-support systems of the body develop in the trainees [1]. This effect helps to increase the physical fitness level of the participants [2]. The dynamics of morphofunctional indicators of the respiratory system in full-time university students who have started experiencing regular sports loads requires some clarification.

The aim of the study is to determine the changes in the parameters of the respiratory system in second-year university students under the conditions of regular gym training.

Methodology and organization of the study. The study lasted for 6 months. Fourteen second-year male university students, who had started attending the gym irregularly during their first year, were observed in dynamics. After the study began, they all started attending strictly regularly twice a week for at least 1 hour. Observations were also conducted on a group of 10 second-year male students who did not subject themselves to physical loads. The general condition of all the young men was assessed daily, and the main pulmonary indicators were recorded monthly. The Student's t-test was calculated based on the results obtained during the study.

Results and discussion. During the observation, the differences between the compared groups increased in terms of vital capacity, forced vital capacity, as well as forced expiratory volume in 0.5 seconds and 1 second.
As the duration of regular gym attendance increased, these indicators became increasingly physiologically advantageous for the students. In the control group, all the recorded indicators remained unchanged, staying at a low level.

Conclusions. Regular gym training promotes the pronounced development of the body's physical characteristics, accompanied by an increase in the volumetric and velocity parameters of the lungs in the trainees.
