The aim of the study is to develop and implement means of improving special physical training (SPT) in the training process of kickboxers who are medical students.

Methodology and organization of the study. To determine effective means of SPT, an experiment was conducted at the Omsk State Medical University (OmSMU) among 35 students aged 17–25 at the preparation stage for the Kickboxing Universiade among students of medical and pharmaceutical universities of the Russian Federation.

Results and discussion. In 2025, the OmSMU university team demonstrated a low number of knockouts at the Universiade; therefore, a decision was made on the need to improve the sports skills of the kickboxers, taking into account the lack of time due to the high complexity of their studies. A set of exercises aimed at developing punching power was developed and applied during the three weeks of preparation for the 2026 Universiade [1].
The results showed an increase in the number of knockout blows and a greater number of victories this year compared to last year: there were 4 fights won by early stoppage out of 24 victories; in this tournament, 7 knockouts were achieved and 31 victories were won.
The set of exercises consisted of three elements, performed for 30 seconds each, followed by switching to the next exercise. The main idea of this approach is to perform the exercises at the highest speed in a short period of time, which corresponds to the kickboxer's task in a fight: to demonstrate all their capabilities in 2 minutes. The first exercise is slow push-ups on fists with an explosive ascent. The second is punches with a resistance band. The third is moving a 10 kg barbell forward and backward at shoulder level with both hands for the maximum number of repetitions. After completing one set, sufficient recovery of energy reserves is required – 3–5 minutes, followed by 2 more sets. These exercises develop speed-strength endurance and ensure an increase in punching power without requiring a large amount of time [2].

Conclusions. Thus, a set of exercises was developed and applied for the medical students of the university kickboxing team, which fully met the needs of qualified athletes. The exercises used at the pre-competitive stage proved their effectiveness.
