Abstract
Objective of the study is to identify the effectiveness of using the means of wushu in the physical education of pupils aged 10-11. Methods and structure of the study. The objects of the study were 90 pupils aged 10-11 from a primary school of the city of Zhengzhou, randomly divided into experimental group A, experimental group B and a control group. A programme of teaching wushu on the basis of the Chinese model of health-preserving physical culture was developed. A pedagogical experiment lasting 14 weeks was conducted, using instruments for assessing physical literacy and a scale of children’s physical activity. An intergroup comparison of the physical literacy indicators of the pupils of the three groups after the experiment was carried out, and the average value of the improvement of these indicators across all dimensions was calculated. Results and conclusions. According to the dimensions of motivation and confidence, knowledge and understanding, everyday behaviour and physical abilities, the growth of the indicators in experimental group A was significantly higher than in experimental group B and the control group. For most indicators, no statistically significant differences were revealed between experimental group B and the control group. For the indicator ‘physical activity over the last seven days’, no significant differences were found between the three groups; however, the maximum value of the growth of the results was observed in group A. On the whole, this testifies that teaching wushu on the basis of the Chinese model of health-preserving physical culture makes it possible to more significantly and comprehensively raise the level of the physical literacy of pupils aged 10-11; its effectiveness is clearly higher than that of traditional wushu teaching and standard physical culture lessons.
